Whether you are a current student looking to continue your education or a young alumnus thinking of going back to school, choosing the graduate program that is right for you can be a daunting process, and getting in can be even harder. Join fellow alumni who have already navigated this process themselves, and a few who help others with these decisions everyday. Panelists include Chicago alumni currently in graduate programs in Law, Medicine and the Social Sciences, as well as admissions officers in Law and Business who will share their insight into the admissions process including the top do’s and don’ts for a successful grad school application.

Panelists will include:
Anna Ivey (JD ’97), Former Dean of Admissions at the University of Chicago Law School
Born and raised in Germany, Anna Ivey earned her B.A. in History from Columbia University in New York and earned her law degree at the University of Chicago in 1997. Upon graduating from law school, she joined the Corporate Group at the Los Angeles law firm Irell & Manella, working with clients such as Disney and AOL Time Warner in mergers and acquisitions, securities law, and public and private financings. She later joined the Entertainment Finance Group at Gipson Hoffman & Pancione, also in Los Angeles, where she worked on the financing of major motion pictures. She next returned to the University of Chicago Law School, where she served as Dean of Admissions. Since then Anna founded Anna Ivey Consulting and published The Ivey Guide to Law School Admissions. Anna has been featured as an expert on CNN and Fox News Channel, and in the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal. She speaks regularly to prospective students.
Joanne Legler, Associate Director, University of Chicago GSB Office of Admissions
Joanne Legler is Associate Director of Admissions and Financial Aid at the University Of Chicago Graduate School Of Business, a position she has held since September 2006. Joanne received her BA from Hamilton College in Clinton, NY in 1997, and a Master’s in Education with a concentration in Student Affairs from the University of Delaware in 2001. In the past, Joanne worked as Senior Associate Dean of Admission at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, PA and in Residence Life at Towson University in Maryland. A New York native and huge New York Yankees fan, Joanne currently volunteers her time with the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer and enjoys traveling.
Thane Rehn (AB ’04), Student at Columbia Law School
Thane Rehn graduated from the College in 2004 with an AB in Anthropology. He is currently a
summer associate at Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz, and will receive his J.D. from Columbia next year.
Ian Halim (AB ’04), PhD Candidate, Classics, Columbia University
Ian graduated from the College in 2004 with his A.B. in Classical Studies, and he immediately went on to Columbia University to receive his Masters in Classics in 2006.
Amaris Keiser (AB ‘05), Student at Mount Sinai Medical School
Amaris Keiser graduated from the College in 2005 with her A.B. in HIPS. She was Project Manager for Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital for a year after graduating, before starting her graduate degree from the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine, from which she will graduate in 2010.
